Our Ministries |
| Drawing from the lives and labours of our Foundresses,
Adelaide and Veronica, who were not daunted by the
challenges facing the Church of their day, we have
over the ensuing years attempted to read and discern
the changing signs of our times and respond to them
with similar generosity and zeal. |
| From the very beginnings of our Congregation’s
life and history our Sisters have engaged in a variety
of ministries: |
- 1849 - Charlotte Street: The first Charlotte
Street school was opened.
|
- 1878 – Elmwood in Bothwell opened
offering Boarding and Day school education
for girls.
|
- 1947 - Ireland: Venturing to Falcarragh
to as a community school and boarding
school for local girls as well as those
from the islands.
|
- 1950 - Nigeria: Mission outreach in
Oshogbo Dioceses, which continues to flourish
and plant new seeds.
|
- 1960 - England: Cinderford provides
a local catholic school to the people
in the Forest of Dean.
|
- 1971 – America: Education in the
Diocese of Altoona and Bedford.
|
- 1976 - Pioneering the Innocents Society
in Motherwell Diocese offering residential
care for unmarried mothers and Pro-Life
activity.
|
- 1981 - Mitre House: - Pioneering the
First Archdiocesan residential respite
care for those with learning difficulties.
|
- 1984 - Assisi House: - Pioneering an
Archdiocesan project offering residential
care for the profoundly handicapped.
|
- 1990 - Kenya: Mission outreach to Nakuru
and Kericho Diocese, working with the
local people and journeying with clients
of Live With Hope.
|
|
| Mindful of St. Francis’ particular role
in the renewal of the Church of his time, we see
evangelisation as a primary focus of all our apostolic
activities, through which we evangelise and allow
ourselves to be evangelised by those we serve. Wherever
we live, we endeavour to contribute to the pastoral
work of the local parish community, and willingly
enter into collaborative ministry with priests,
religious and laity. |
